Monologue v internal monologue pt4: more ants

In this post is more research into ants. The relevance of this is to draw inspiration from that can be incorporated into the finial animation.

How Ants Take Care of Their Farms

Ant Milking Aphid

From 0:14

Some ants farm
For example:  cutter ants: grow and maintain fungus, quote “ Ants eat gongylidia and leave mycelium to grow more blobs.
some ants farm: aphids” for their honeydew. They normally clip their wings, releases chemicals to make them more docile, but protect them from predators and rain, care for their eggs and make sure their well fed.  The ants train and “ milk” them by tickling them with their antennas.

In conclusion might include a  aphid as food and the movement.

Why do male ants die after mating?

In conclusion might incorporate  this information for the Final animation.

2 queens

Flesh Ripping Ants?

From 4:19- 4:26

Invasion of the Yellow Crazy Ants!animation

Queen Ant Removing Her Wings

Apparently, the queen ants break of her wings after mating because she does not need them anymore and just use it as a food source.

ADOPTION & PROGRESS | 3 Month Queen Ant Update

In conclusion the queen ant  doesn’t always kill the eggs that are  not hers. Watched a later video when they are pupae and there still alive, however when she has a couple more workers and a 2nd batch of eggs not hers gets places in her nest, the workers seem to kill most of them apart from one male.

( The second patch video)

What is a Social Parasite Ant?

They depict the ants as giant circles with little legs in the mini animation. Only the queens have mouths while the worker ants they didn’t bother putting mouths in.

National Geographic Wild City Of Ants

33:16 – 36:55 super colony, fighting against rivals.

In most ant colonies they fight against rival colonies however at the time “38: 38” on would it explains how fire ants just kidnap the eggs of a rival colony; the workers and queen that got kidnapped from just joins and they all become a super colony, however eventually all the workers revolt and kill all but one queen.  The kidnapped colonies get treated the same. Thought this was interesting so might   include the theme of kidnapping in the final piece.

INSECT WARS – National Geographic Special

Turns out some ants kidnap and own slaves from different ant species. Some that had been kidnaped, rebel and kill mainly at the pupae stage that belongs to their captures.

Winter Ants (Prenolepis imparis) False Honeypot Ants

Some ant’s species use each other as food storage units, Could use this as part of a story in the finial piece.
